I'm looking for photos from graders oder types of graders which were unique.

- The Autoblade from CMI with 4-axis for example
- The 18G und 25 M from Brent Engineering & Prairie Roadbuilders
- The Crossley Grader https://www.flickr.com/photos/rayfoot/6944000704/

Correct procedure to blue topping ahead of motor grader?

Can someone explain to me how to properly set blue top stakes ahead of using a motorgrader. And at what time during the pad, paving area or road to set them? Also do I leave the material a little high or low, before setting stakes. I'm trying to improve my grades before turning over to concrete/asphalt subs. We use trackloaders & skid steers as of now, to get within a 1"-2". Need to get much closer to stay in business/reputation.

Many thanks

welding on the chain box

My chain box has nine inch crack along the top inside weld that weeps a little oil from the box. Is it feasible to go over this with a new arc weld? Would I need to drain the lubricating fluid, (JD hydraulic fluid)? My JB epoxy weld fix cracked after a short time. I'm trying some plumbers glue now and will stop there if it holds-up. Concerned about water entering the box if the plumbing stuff leaks too.

hello, I'm in need of some help. I'm working on an Austin-Western mod. 88L-1022 4wd grader, trying to remove brake drum from the flange, it won't come off. I removed the drive shaft to front wheels nuts holding drum to the drive flange no luck. I bought parts book it looks like it should separate. I can't find a repair manual for it. I think it is a 1956yr. tried some heat on/off wd-40 2 jaw puller, I don't want to break anything. any help would be helpful, thanks Ralph as you can tell this my first post thanks.

LOOOONG TIME TROLL, FIRST TIME POST!!!

Finally took the plunge and signed up, LOVE this forum!

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had photos of their factory or custom made fender setup for their grader. I run a 772D but I'll take photos from anyone from anywhere, stationary or steerable. I want to put a set on mine but the board won't go for the ungodly price that JD wants for them since "its been run like this just fine" well, i'm tired of rocks hitting windows. Need to do something but Google is of no help in showing me how anything has been mounted.

I run all 4 seasons here in SE Nebraska from drought to flood to 10' drifts of snow. I use a 12' plow with a 2' extension bolted on and a 14' V plow on the front in winter. No wings (i wish) and everything is on gravel so I use a rear drag setup as well. Any and all photos would be great!!! the more detail the better.

Hope to see something soon. Winter is upon us!

** Also have a few other questions for anyone that runs or knows a crap ton about the 772D... mainly the electrical let me know, if not i won't ramble about it.

THANKS IN ADVANCE, THIS GROUP IS AWESOME!!!

140m down again

Hello everyone, having some problems with our 140m, over the course of the summer we have encountered quite a bit of down time with this machine countless transmission troubles, steering malfunctions, right side articulating ram failure, than broke and pushed up into the engine cracked oil pan, we finally got all this fixed and today while doing a pm on the machine while changing the oil in the tandems we found round center links from the drive chain laying on the bottom of the tandem, both sides, can anyone tell me what would cause the chains to fail? could there be something else inside the tandem that caused this, any ideas? this is a $10000 dollar fix! :Banghead

What if we had New Control Pattern on the M Series Graders?

OK, I had to toy with this a little. I have been operating graders for most of my 40 year career. I just started operating a 140M about 4 months ago. I like lots of things about it and if I had nothing to do but maintaining haul roads or even building them it isn't too awful bad. But any of you old-timers out there that know how to grab a handful of levers at the same time know what I am talking about when it comes to grading a very tight corner. It is a combination of wheel lean, articulation, steering and blade control. This joy stick works fine with the steering and I can get along with the articulation fairly good. But you watch your left hand doing all of the work while the right hand is merely moving the blade up and down and turning the circle. Oh and running the blade side shift. I think the wheel lean is very very unusable and is probably the one thing I hate more than anything. I used to do lots of small turns using nothing but the wheel lean so I did not have to remove my hands from the rack. You can accomplish this pretty easy now with the joystick turning. You can grab both the wheel lean and articulation with your right hand at the same time (pull them both for right turn and push for left turn) in the old rack style. I created this drawing changing things around a little how I would like to have a joystick controlled motor grader. With this you could still hit the wheel lean, articulation and steer all at the same time. Oh did I mention that I think the hat switch is a piece of junk?? hahaha.

Well I just thought I get an opinion and see how much of you know what I could stir up. Of course I'm too old to ever see a change in them again but it is always nice to have a wish list.

Oh and those are slider switches...
